Pigs End Series with Columbus

The IronPigs conclude their three-game set with the Columbus Clippers in game three Thursday morning at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 a.m.

The Pigs will start RHP Nick Pivetta (2-0, 0.69) and the Columbus Clippers will counter with LHP Shawn Morimando (0-2, 12.46). RHP Nick Pivetta makes his third start of the season as he enters the contest on an eight-inning scoreless innings streak. The streak began in his last inning of work on the April 9 doubleheader against the Pawtucket Red Sox. He continued the streak by firing a complete game seven inning shutout in game one of the doubleheader in Pawtucket, RI on April 15, allowing just five hits while striking out five in his second win of the season.

LHP Shawn Morimand makes his third start of the season, with both being losses against the Louisville Bats. In his last outing on April 14, the southpaw went 5.1 innings allowing five runs on seven hits while picking up the loss in a 5-3 loss to the Bats. The Virginia Beach, VA native was named a 2016 Eastern League midseason All-Star with Double-A Akron and was also named a 2016 Cleveland MiLB.com Organizational All-Star.

The Bash Brothers of Rhys Hoskins and Dylan Cozens sparked a seven run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull ahead for an eventual 8-4 victory over the Columbus Clippers Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Trailing 2-0, Hoskins led off the frame with a solo blast to left, putting the Pigs on the board to make the score 2-1 Clippers. After a Nick Williams ground rule double to right, Jesmuel Valentin put down a bunt and reached safely to put two runners on. After Logan Moore walked, Taylor Featherston roped a two-run double off the right field wall to give the Pigs a 3-2 lead.

J.P. Crawford was then given a free pass to load the bases for Jorge Alfaro. Alfaro would strike out to leave the bases loaded with two outs for Dylan Cozens.

Cozens then launched a towering grand slam to right field to cap off the Pigs seven run rally. It was the first time the Pigs had a seven run inning since June 11, 2016 vs. Durham, and Cozens grand slam was the first since the same date when former IronPig Darin Ruf launched a grand slam of his own.

Ricardo Pinto (1-1, 1.47) picked up his first Triple-A win as he tossed six innings, allowing three runs (two of which earned) on seven hits and struck out five and gave up the home run to Shaffer.
