Pigs Drop Series Opener to RailRiders, 10-1

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (13-13) dropped the series opener to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (15-13) by a score of 10-1 on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The IronPigs grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Darnell Sweeney (2-3, R) led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout and later scored on Tommy Joseph's (2-4, RBI) two-out RBI single.

A five-run third for the RailRiders opened up a 5-1 advantage for the visitors. Aaron Judge's three-run blast off of Pigs starter Mark Appel was the big blow in the inning while Nick Swisher knocked home a run with an RBI double and a run scored on a wild pitch. All five runs came with two outs in the frame.

Appel (3-1) allowed the five runs on six hits while walking four and fanning six over five innings of work.

RailRiders starter Richard Bleier (1-0) gave up the one run on six hits while walking one and fanning four in seven innings of work.

Gary Sanchez's three-run shot with two outs in the top of the sixth off of RHP Gregory Infante (2.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB) opened up an 8-1 lead for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Delbinson Romero extended the lead to 10-1 for the RailRiders with a two-run shot off of Infante in the top of the seventh.

RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP) and 1B Brock Stassi (1.0 IP, 2 K) each tossed a scoreless inning in relief for the Pigs.

The series wraps up on Friday at 7:05 p.m. from Coca-Cola Park as RHP Alec Asher (1-0, 0.00) gets the ball for the Pigs against RailRiders RHP Anthony Swarzak (1-3, 4.18).
