Phoenix Mercury News Release
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Mercury and the City of Phoenix are celebrating the Mercury's selection of Brittney Griner as the #1 overall pick in tonight's WNBA Draft by highlighting Griner throughout downtown Phoenix.
In collaboration with the City of Phoenix, the Phoenix Mercury renamed 1st Street, "Griner Street," following the selection of Griner earlier this evening. The signs at the intersection of Jefferson and 1st Street have been changed, and the street will be recognized as "Griner Street" until April 29.
In addition, across the street, on the east side of CityScape's Hotel Palomar building, the Mercury displayed a 77 ft. 8 in. by 35 ft. 10 in. banner of Griner featuring one of her highlight dunks. With the assistance of Red Development and Elite Media, the banner will be displayed through June 10.
Mercury fans can view images of the street sign and banners, as well as receive an all-access pass to Brittney Griner video and merchandise at phxmerc.com/griner42.
The team has also launched a customizable "Griner Ticket Pack" earlier this evening, on sale now at phxmerc.com/grinerpack. Fans that purchase the unique ticket package will choose to attend three of the first four Mercury home games this season, for just $142 (regularly priced at $189), and will receive an autographed Brittney Griner photograph.
Griner will make her highly anticipated WNBA debut when the Mercury hosts the Chicago Sky and #2 overall pick, Elena Delle Donne, on May 27 at US Airways Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
