Players of the Week

Pitcher- LHP, Jesse Biddle*, Reading ... 2 starts- ... 1-0, 13.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 26 SO... Honored as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, 4/22-28... At the time of print, Biddle is top-5 in the EL in the following categories... 1st in strikeouts (40) & batting average against (.114), 2nd in WHIP (0.77), 3rd in innings pitched (31.0) and 4th in ERA (1.74)... The 21-year-old lefty was a 1st round (27th overall) selection out of Germantown Friends School and signed by Eric Valent. Note: For more on Biddle, please see the Reading Fightin' Phils section.

Player- 2B, Cesar Hernandez*, Lehigh Valley ... Batted .423 (11-26) in 7 G, 5 R, 3 RBI, 2 3B, 1 HR, 3 SB and 4 BB (currently riding a 10-game hitting streak)... Hernandez is batting .364 (32-88) on the year... His 32 hits rank T-1st in the organization as well as the International League... The 22-year-old Hernandez was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on July 2, 2006 by Sal Agostinelli and Jesus Mendez.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs- International League North Division...10-13, 4th place... 3-4 for the week ... Have lost seven of their last ten games after starting the season 7-6... Two wins to finish the week capped by a 12-7 win at Louisville on 4/28 where six players had multi-hit games... OF Darin Ruf* led the way going 4-5 at the plate with 2 HR, 2 2B, 5 RBI... Five LHV home runs on 4/28 set a franchise record (previous: 4, 3x, last: 5/6/10 at DUR)... After starting 2013 with three home runs in nine games, LHV has slugged 18 in their last 14 games (21 club HR tied for 2nd in the IL, trailing Buffalo, 26)... At 2,997 runs scored in franchise history, LHV stands three runs away from 3,000 at the time of print... 2B Cesar Hernandez* has a ten-game hitting streak as of print... Over the streak Hernandez is batting .395 (15-38)... Hernandez is 6th in the IL in batting with a .364 AVG on the year... 3B Cody Asche* had a nine-game hitting streak where he was batting .483 (15-31) snapped on 4/27... Asche has hit safely in nine of 11 games and is batting .333 (14-42) over that span... J.C. Ramirez continued his solid work on the mound with three scoreless appearances and has yet to give up a run between LHV and double-A Reading (11.0 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 12 SO, .111 OPP AVG)... LHP Joe Savery* allowed his first ER of 2013 (4/24 at IND)... Savery has 14 SO in 9.2 IP (13.04 SO/9.0 IP) while limiting hitters to a .121 OPP AVG (4-33)... Savery has walked only two batters, and has thrown 138 pitches, 83 for strikes...

Reading Fightin' Phillies- Eastern League Eastern Division...12-10, 2nd place... 4-2 for the week... Reading capped their best week of the season with a dramatic 2-1 walk-off win in extras over New Hampshire on Sunday... On 4/22 at Harrisburg LHP Jesse Biddle* took a perfect game into the 7th inning before issuing his first BB... Biddle struck out the side in the 1st, 3rd, 6th & 7th innings, finishing with 16 on the night... Biddle's 16 strikeouts were the most by a Reading pitcher in nearly 12 years (Adam Walker, 5/10/01, 13 SO at Portland)... According to Fightin' Phils PR, the 16 strikeouts set a franchise modern-day record, and are more than any Reading pitcher dating back to 1992... That same night Biddle went 2-for-3, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI at the plate and is batting .600 (3-for-5) in his first three games with Reading....3B Tyler Henson is currently riding a six-game hitting streak and batted .435 (10-23) for the week with two doubles and a triple... Henson's EL ranks: 1st in AVG (.371), 2nd in OPS (1.009), 3rd in SLG (.581), 6th in OBP (.429), T-6th in 3B (2)... OF Zach Collier* belted his first career double-A home run, finishing the week hitting .240 (6-25) with two HR and six RBI... Collier's 2nd HR of the week was a three-run shot that came in the top of the 9th with Reading trailing New Hampshire by one... RHP Hector Neris* made two appearances during the week, including one start, going 1-0, 2.57 ERA (2 ER, 7.0 IP) with 9 SO for the week

Clearwater Threshers- Florida State League North Division...11-12, T-3rd place... 3-3 for the week... OF Aaron Altherr* started the week hitting .476 (10-21) with a HR, two doubles and a triple before snapping his seven-game hitting streak on 4/27... Altherr's FSL ranks : 2nd in doubles (10), 5th in OPS (.997), 6th in hits (31), T-6th in SLG (.557), T-8th in AVG (.352), T-9th in OBP (.420), T-10th in SB (6)... 3B Maikel Franco* batted .259 (7-27) for the week with 3 HR, 2 2B and 10 RBI... In Friday's 9-4 win over Tampa, Franco went 3-5, 2 2B, 2 HR, and 7 RBI... Franco leads both the FSL and organization in doubles (11) and RBI (25)... OF Cameron Perkins* batted .417 (10-24) with 3 2B and a 3B this week and is batting .352 on the season... 2B Carlos Alonso* hit .348 (8-23) with a 2B and 3B... OF Kelly Dugan came off the DL and went 4-for-9 at the dish...

Lakewood BlueClaws- South Atlantic League North Division...7-15, 7th place... 2-2 for the week including two PPD due to rain ... SS Angelo Mora batted .353 (6-17) with 2 2B & 2 SB... 1B Art Charles continued his hot start batting .294 (5-17) with a HR, 2 2B & 4 R... 1B William Carmona went 4-for-5, 2 R, 2B & RBI on 4/26 vs Asheville... RHP Kevin Brady* didn't allow a hit in 5.0 innings of work, earning the W 4/23 at Greenville... RHP Miguel Nunez allowed three hits in one start during the week, going 5.0 innings for the win.

Rehab Update:

Carlos Ruiz between Clearwater (2G) and Reading (2 G): 2-for-14, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB.

Delmon Young between Clearwater (3 G) and Lehigh Valley (4 G) batted .367 (11-30), 3 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI
