Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA (February 24, 2011) - Today's camp marked the arrival of Philadelphia Soul rookie kicker Robbie Smith (5-9, 170, Western Washington). The last time Smith was at the NovaCare Complex was at open tryouts January 29, where he impressed the Soul coaching staff with his powerful and accurate kicking prowess.

SETTING THE 'TONE-TONE': Third-year defensive back Antonio Malone (6-0, 200, Toledo) likes to keep his teammates laughing on the sidelines, but he knows how to set a physical tone on the field. In 2010, Malone played with the Utah Blaze where he recorded 60.5 total tackles, five pass breakups and two interceptions in 11 games. In 2008 with the Colorado Crush, Malone recorded 47.5 total tackles, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. He also spent time with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe (2007), and Green Bay Packers of the NFL (2006).

DID YOU KNOW Kicker Robbie Smith took a five-day road trip that began in his hometown of Bellingham, WA and ended in Philadelphia at training camp for the Soul. Smith said the worst span of the drive took place between Utah and Iowa with flat terrain and plenty of remaining miles to travel. Smith initially flew to Philadelphia for open tryouts where he earned himself a roster spot.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I'm excited to get on the field with this group of guys and see how all of our individual talents come together. We have a great mix of veteran leadership and rookies eager to make a difference on this team. Bringing it all together with the roar of the Philly fans behind us is something I can't wait to be a part of. " - Mike Brown, defensive back, on the team looking forward to the season.
