Bridgeport Islanders News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY -- Patrick Maroon scored the game-winning goal in the shoot-out as the Adirondack Phantoms prevailed 2-1 for a 3-2 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Greg Moore had a goal and an assist for the Sound Tigers.

The Phantoms dominated the play offensively for long stretches, out-shooting the Sound Tigers 51-27. Scott Munroe, playing for the second straight night, was outstanding in goal, making 49 saves to keep his team in the game. Nic Riopel made 25 saves to earn his first professional victory for the Phantoms.

Both teams came out energized as the Sound Tigers' Matt Martin and the Phantoms' Patrick Maroon fought each other off the opening face-off. A heavy-hitting, but scoreless, first period followed, as Adirondack out-shot Bridgeport 13-4.

The Phantoms continued to dominate the offensive play in the second period, holding a 20-6 advantage in shots. David Laliberte put Adirondack on top at the 4:55 mark of the period, scoring his second goal of the year. As the Phantoms cycled the puck on the power-play, Jared Ross sent a back-door pass through the crease to Laliberte who re-directed it into the open corner of the net, past a sliding Scott Munroe.

Greg Moore tied the game for Bridgeport with 51 seconds left in the second. Jesse Joensuu held the puck behind the net and hit a trailing Moore with a perfect centering pass in the slot. Moore one-timed the shot into the net for his sixth tally of the season.

The Sound Tigers took the lead 3:18 into the third period on the strength of a power-play goal by Matt Martin. Mark Flood put a blast on goal from the point that Riopel turned aside. However, the rebound bounced to Martin who swung behind the net and stuffed a wrap-around shot inside the post.

Stefan Legein tied the game for the Phantoms with 4:32 left. As the Sound Tigers cycled the puck on the power-play, Legein created a turnover at the blue-line and raced up the ice. Munroe stopped Leigein's first shot but the rebound bounced away and Legein was able to corral the loose puck and put it in the top shelf to make it 2-2.

After a scoreless overtime session, Trevor Smith started the shootout with a wrist-shot through Riopel's legs to give the Sound Tigers an early lead. After Munroe tuned away the first three Phantom shooters, Chris Kolanos put a puck in the goal to even the shoot-out, After two scoreless rounds, Maroon beat Munroe with a shot to give the Phantoms a 2-1 edge. Riopel stooped Justin DiBenedetto's last shot to give Adirondack the victory.

The Sound Tigers are back home Sunday afternoon when they host the Portland Pirates, Face-off at Harbor Yard is set for 4:00 pm. For tickets, call TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000.
