Phantoms Assign Pair of Goalies

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that the Philadelphia Phantoms have assigned goaltenders Jeremy Duchesne and Martin Houle to the Nailers.

Duchesne, 20, will make his professional debut with the Nailers after a successful career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In the 2006-07 season he split time between Val-d'Or and Halifax posting a combined 3.33 GAA in 52 games.

The native of Silver Springs, MD was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fourth round (#119 overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Houle, 22, has played the majority of his professional career in the American Hockey League as a member of the Phantoms. He played in 37 games for the Phantoms in 2006-07 posting a 3.32 GAA and 40 games in 2005-06 with a 2.54 GAA.

The Flyers called on Houle to make his NHL debut on Oct. 4, playing two minutes in a loss to Calgary.

He made his pro debut in the ECHL in 2005-06 appearing in seven games with the Trenton Titans before earning the call up to the AHL for the remainder of the season. Prior to signing with Philadelphia he completed a four year career with Cape Brenton of the QMJHL.

Selected in the eighth round (#232 overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, the 5-foot-11-inch, 180 pound netminder was the 2003-04 QMJHL Goalie of the Year.

Wheeling's training camp begins on Saturday at WesBanco Arena.

The Nailers will open the ECHL's 20th Anniversary season with a game against the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 18th. It will be a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals. Wheeling will open their home schedule on Oct. 26 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
