Petes Select Will Cuylle Third Overall in 2018 OHL Priority Selection Presented by ATU Local 1320

Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes are excited to announce that they have selected Will Cuylle in the first round, third overall in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore, and presented locally by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1320.
Cuylle, a 6'2", 187lbs left winger, was alternate captain for the Toronto Marlboros in 2017-18. In 45 games, he recorded 33 goals and 29 assists for 62 points. The Toronto native has drawn comparisons to Nick Ritchie, who put up similar numbers to Cuylle in his minor midget season with the Marlboros before being drafted 2nd overall by the Petes in 2011 and 10th overall by the NHL's Anaheim Ducks in 2014.
Prior to the OHL Priority Selection, Will's advisor informed the Petes that the prospect would not report to Peterborough if selected. General Manager Mike Oke and his scouting staff were intent on selecting the best player available, however, as any other outcome would be a disservice to the current players, coaching staff, management, alumni, and fans.
"Will is an exceptionally talented forward who we feel could make an immediate and lasting impact on the Petes organization," commented Oke. "We look forward to discussing the many benefits that Peterborough and the Petes organization have to offer Will and his family, and we encourage members of our community to do the same."
Will is not anticipated to take part in the press conference at the conclusion of the fifth round, although it is expected that several other players taken by the Petes in Saturday's Priority Selection will be present, pending travel arrangements. The press conference is expected to begin shortly after noon in the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame. Members of the media and public are invited to attend.
Should Cuylle not report to the Petes prior to the start of the 2018-19 season, he is eligible to play lower tiers of junior hockey. If his rights are traded to another OHL team, the Petes will receive the fifth overall pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection as compensation in addition to their original first round pick.
