Peterson's Big Night Leads Lemurs to Win

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs beat the Amarillo ThunderHeads on 5-2 on Saturday night behind three hits from Lemurs catcher Brian Peterson at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Peterson started the night with 999 career hits, and, in the third inning of tonight's game Peterson picked up his 1000th career hit when he lined a pitch up the middle to advance Jarrod Mederos to third. Later in the inning, Ty Morrison drove in Mederos from third with a single and Dustin Gieger reached on a fielder's choice to score Peterson from third to make it 2-1 Lemurs.

In bottom of the fifth, the Lemurs catcher led the inning off with a solo home run over the left field wall to give the Lemurs a 3-1 lead. With one out in the same inning D'Vontrey Richardson added a solo home run of his own to extend the Lemurs lead to three runs.

Both the Lemurs and the ThunderHeads would scratch out one more run for a 5-2 final.

Lemurs starting pitcher Henry Garcia (2-5) put in a decent night of work as he went five complete, giving up two runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Austin Kirk (0-1) started the game for the ThunderHeads and he took the loss going five innings and giving up four runs on eight hits with one walk and two punch outs.

John Brebbia picked up his seventh save of the year as he gave up a base hit and struck out two in the ninth.

The Laredo Lemurs will look to take game three of the series tomorrow as they take on the Amarillo ThunderHeads at 6:00pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
