Peterborough Petes Unable to Fend Off Erie Otters Petes open regular season in front of record crowd

(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes raised their East Division Champions banner in front of a record home opener crowd but were unable to top off the night with a win, falling 5-2 to the Erie Otters.

There were no goals in the first period of regular season action, but the second frame saw six goals between the two teams. Detroit Red Wings prospect Zach Gallant recorded the first goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second period.

Erie responded with goals by Ivan Lodnia, Alex Gritz, and Christian Girhiny.

Newly named Petes Captain Logan DeNoble notched his first of the season late in the middle stanza, but Erie answered back with a shorthanded marker by Taylor Raddysh.

The only goal in the third period was a shorthanded empty netter by Girhiny.

Adam Timleck collected two assists, while Timms and Robertson added one assist each.

Peterborough native Josh Wainman recorded one shot, two penalty minutes, and a minus-2 rating for Erie.

Girhiny, Raddysh and Timleck were named the first, second, and third stars, respectively, and Robertson was named the Mark's Hardest Working Pete.

"It was really exciting to have so many fans at tonight's game," commented Zach Gallant. "Hopefully they'll continue that support and we can play well for them."
