Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -The Binghamton Senators welcomed the rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for the fifth and final time during the 2012-13 regular season tonight. The B-Sens fought the Penguins in back and forth battle that ultimately resulted in a 3-2 shootout victory for the visitors from Wilkes-Barre.

The first period would end with the teams tied 1-1, despite Wilkes-Barre outshooting Binghamton 14 to 4. Chad Kolarik got things started for the Penguins earning his 25th goal of the season at 9:24. The B-Sens would even the score as Shane Prince dumped one in on net after receiving a pass from Louie Caporusso at the 12:22 mark.

Things turned sour for the B-Sens after Corey Cowick was issued two minutes each for high-sticking and unsportsmanlike conduct at 10:03 of the second period. The Penguins would take advantage just 15 seconds into the power play as Trevor Smith tallied a goal with the help of Kolarik and Beau Bennett.

3:43 into the final frame Danny New potted his second goal of the season with help from Caporusso and Prince to knot the game at two.

The game then progressed to a shootout where Stephane Da Costa and Pat Cannone would each tally markers for the B-Sens. Kolarik, Riley Holzapfel, and Trevor Smith each scored goals for Wilkes-Barre. Smith's third round shootout goal proved to be the game winner.

Nathan Lawson started between the pipes for Binghamton turning aside 30 of 32 shots through regulation and overtime and one of four Penguins in the shootout. Jeff Zatkoff received the nod in net for Wilkes-Barre stopping 27 of 29 shots through regulation and overtime before stonewalling three of five B-Sens in the shootout.

The B-Sens see action again on Friday, April 5 as they travel to Norfolk to face the Admirals for the first of back-to-back road games. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 15 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
