Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
Friday, December 7: PENGUINS 4, Bears 5(OT)...
Kevin Marshall's goal at 3:18 of overtime gave Hershey its fourth win in five meetings versus the Penguins this season.
After the Bears took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Penguins responded with a power play goal by Benn Ferriero and an even-strength tally later in the period. Robert Bortuzzo's first goal of the season put WBS on top, 3-2, at 1:29 of the second. The Penguins got a game-tying power play marker from Eric Tangradi to eventually force overtime.
Ferriero and Tangradi each recorded a goal and assist. Jeff Zatkoff's six-game winning streak came to an end.
Saturday, December 8: PENGUINS 3, Pirates 4 (SO)...
For the second time in as many meetings, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was able to build a 3-0 lead over Portland only to see the Pirates rally back and force a shootout. Unlike the first time when the Penguins prevailed, on this night it was the Pirates coming away victorious with a 4-3 shootout win.
Trevor Smith and Jayson Megna scored 44 seconds apart early in the first to help WBS go up by two. Riley Holzapfel made it 3-0 midway through the second period with his seventh goal of the season.
The Penguins were unable to get the puck by Pirates goalie Mike Lee - making his AHL debut - during four rounds of the shootout. Rob Klinkhammer and former Penguin Chris Connor beat Brad Thiessen to complete the comeback for Portland. Thiessen made 30 saves through overtime for WBS.
