LAST WEEK'S RESULTS

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 23: PENGUINS 5, Crunch 7...

Kyle Palmieri recorded two goals and an assist to lead Syracuse to a 7-5 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Moheghan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The Crunch jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and later owned a 6-1 cushion in the middle frame.

Bryan Lerg scored twice and Alexandre Picard picked up his first goal of the season to pull the Penguins within a pair, but Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was ultimately undone by a power play tally midway through the third by Peter Holland.

The Penguins outshot the Crunch, 54-18, firing the most shots in a single game in the AHL this season.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 25: PENGUINS 2, Bears 3 (SO)...

Nick Petersen scored with 1:16 remaining in regulation to help the Penguins gain a point, but it was the Bears triumphing in the shootout, 4-3, in Wilkes-Barre. Ryan Potulny lit the lamp twice on the power play to help Hershey establish leads in the first and third periods. The Penguins were able to tie the contest at 7:03 of the second when Ben Street scored on the man-advantage.

Braden Holtby made 4-of-5 saves in the shootout, while Potulny and Keith Aucoin converted for the Bears.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 26: Penguins 3, SENATORS 2...

Brandon DeFazio deflected home the game-winner with 3:07 left in the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Senators at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Philip Samuelsson had his second multi-point game of the season with two assists in the contest. Lerg recorded his third goal in as many games and Colin McDonald potted a 5-on-3 power play goal.

Scott Munroe made 28 saves and stopped a Nikita Filatov penalty shot in the third period to gather his second win of the season.

BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN....

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton put an end to its five-game winless streak (0-2-0-3) with a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators. In doing so, the Penguins also raised their road record to 9-1-0-2, the second-best winning percentage in the AHL.

ICE CHIPS...

Jason Williams has notched points in seven of his last eight games with a goal and eight assists...The Penguins are 5-0-0-0 this season when they have been outshot....Niko Dimitrakos has points in four straight games (1g- 3a)...Philip Samuelsson is tied for third among rookies with a +9 plus/minus rating....The Penguins are 8-3-1-1 against East Division opponents.

PENALTY SHOT...

Scott Munroe stopped Nikita Filatov's penalty shot in the third period of the Penguins' win over the Senators on Saturday. It Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's first penalty shot against since Springfield's Stephane Goulet was unsuccessful versus John Curry on April 4, 2008.

UPCOMING GAMES

TUESDAY, November 29, 7:15 PM: Penguins at ADMIRALS

The Penguins make the trip down to Norfolk to face the Admirals for the third meeting this season. Norfolk evened up the season series with a 5-3 win in Wilkes-Barre on November 12. The Admirals swept a two-game weekend series against the Providence Bruins to remain in second place in the East Division (12-8-0-1).

The Admirals are led offensively by the top rookie scorer in the AHL, Cory Conacher, who has 10 goals and 13 assists in 20 games. Conacher also ranks 4 th overall in points and is joined in the top 10 by teammate Trevor Smith (T-6 th ) with 22 points (9g-13a). Norfolk has outscored opponents 30-18 in the third period, the second-best goal differential in the league.

The Penguins will face the Admirals seven more times this season and lead the all-time series 62-35-1-7-1.

FRIDAY, December 2, 7:05PM: PENGUINS vs. Pirates...

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will play host to the Portland Pirates at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for game two the four-game season series. The Pirates have gone 6-0-1-0 in their last seven games including a 3-2 shootout win over the Penguins on November 18. Portland is 10-7-1-1 this year and in third place in the Atlantic Division.

First-year player Andy Miele paces the Pirates attack with 20 points (7g-13) and ranks second among rookies in both points (20) and assists (13). He has also picked up assists (9) in six straight home games, dating back to October 19.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Portland will resume head-to-head play on February 11 on the Penguins' home ice. The Penguins are 8-11-1-0-1 all-time against the Pirates.

SATURDAY, December 3, 7:30PM: Penguins at CRUNCH...

The Penguins catch up with the Crunch once again after falling 7-5 on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Syracuse has been victorious in three of its last four games to stay in fourth place in the East (9-6-2-1), just six points behind Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Nick Bonino has two goals and four assists in his last four games to pull into a tie for second in team scoring with 17 points (4g-12a). Peter Holland leads all scorers in the season series with five points (2g-3a) in two games.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has five games remaining in 2011-12 against Syracuse and leads the all-time series 48-44-5- 2-3.

UPCOMING EVENTS/PROMOTIONS...

Friday's contest against the Portland Pirates on December 2, and all Friday home games, is a Dollar Dog and Draft Night. Fans can purchase dollar dogs while supplies last, and fans 21 years of age and older may purchase select draft beers also for just $1 from 6:00-7:30pm.

PENGUINS COAT DRIVE...

The Penguins will be holding their second annual coat drive in conjunction with Eye Care Specialists of Kingston.

The team is asking fans to bring new or gently used coat donations to home games on Friday, November 25 versus the Hershey Bears and Friday, December 2 against the Portland Pirates. Coats will be collected at the East Gate Entrance of the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The Penguins will also be accepting donations at their front office location at 40 Coal Street in Wilkes-Barre.

PENS & PINS...

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be holding their 2nd annual "Pens & Pins" Charity Bowling Tournament on Sunday, December 4 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Chacko's Family Bowling Center, Wilkes-Barre. All proceeds will go to support Allied Services, an organization providing health care and support services throughout the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins players and coaches will be chosen randomly to captain five-person teams of fans in a two-game format. The registration fee is $50 per person or $200 for a team of five and includes two games of bowling, free shoe rental, pizza and soda and a commemorative 2011 "Pens & Pins" T-shirt. Fans can register by calling the Penguins at (570) 208-PENS.

13 th ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR TOSS...

The holidays are just a few weeks away and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are calling upon your generosity in helping our area children. The Penguins are asking fans to bring an unwrapped new plush toy out to Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza for the 13 th Annual Teddy Bear Toss.

The Penguins have once again teamed up with Tobyhanna Army Depot for the Teddy Bear Toss, being held during two home games in December: Friday, December 2 versus the Portland Pirates and Saturday, December 17 against the Norfolk Admirals.

During the first intermission of each game, fans can toss their stuffed toys onto the ice, where they will be collected by members of the Tobyhanna Army Depot and later distributed to less fortunate children throughout the area as part of "Operation Santa Claus."

Over 14,000 teddy bears have been collected during the 12-year history of the event.
