Penguins Re-Sign Barry Goers

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have re-signed defenseman Barry Goers to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season.

Goers underwent preseason hip surgery last year, but returned to the Penguins' line-up on Mar. 4 and went on to record two assists in 16 games. In the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs, Goers led all Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defensemen with five assists in the Penguins' 10 postseason games.

The Ivyland, Pa. native has spent his last three seasons in Wilkes-Barre, combining for three goals and 15 assists for 18 points over 90 games.

This will be Goers seventh season in pro hockey. He has skated in 130 AHL games between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Lake Erie Monsters and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, totaling 26 points (3G-23A).

Prior to his professional career, Goers spent four seasons with University of Massachusetts-Lowell marking five goals and 37 assists for 42 points in 133 collegiate games.
