Pensacola, Florida - The Pensacola Pelicans are proud to announce that the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball have added the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Gary SouthShore Railcats, Kansas City T-Bones and Winnipeg Goldeyes to the league for the 2011 season during the annual meetings in Grand Prairie, Texas.
All four teams were formerly members of the Northern League for at least the last nine season and combined to win its previous six championships. The four clubs drew nearly 900,000 fans to their games during the 2010 season.
The league will feature three divisions during the 2011 season as the Pelicans will be competing in the South Division with El Paso, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and 2010 American Association Champions Shreveport-Bossier. Fargo-Moorhead, St. Paul, Sioux Falls and Winnipeg will compete in the North Division. The Central Division will consist of Gary SouthShore, Kansas City, Lincoln, Sioux City and Wichita.
"This is an exciting time for the Pelicans and for our fans. Four new teams have joined the American Association with six championships among them. The talent level and competition will get even better in 2011 as our league is one of the most healthiest and competitive of all of Independent Baseball," said Pelicans Field Manager Talmadge Nunnari.
"It's an exciting day for the American Association," said American Association Commissioner Miles Wolf. "We're adding four clubs that have excellent operations on and off the field and it's going to make us a very strong 14-team league."
