The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (30-28), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, take on the Carolina Mudcats to begin a three-game series at Five County Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. EST. Right-hander Joe Van Meter (0-3, 2.78) will face righty Mason Radeke.

OVERVIEW ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary season on the Grand Strand and are in their third season as the Advanced-A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. More than 3 million fans have attended a regular season Pelicans game since the franchise's inception in 1999. The team has won more than 1,000 regular season games in the last 15 seasons.

LAST NIGHT ... The Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Potomac Nationals were suspended in the ninth inning with the two teams tied 5-5. With two outs in the ninth, the Pelicans had the potential game-winning run on first base. Moments prior, in heavy rain, Luis Sardinas drove an RBI single into left-center tying the game at five apiece. The Pelicans built a 3-0 lead but the Mudcats scored five unanswered to claim a 5-3 advantage in the seventh.

LEADING NO LONGER... With Winston-Salem's win last night against Salem, the Pelicans and Dash are tied for first place. The Pelicans haven't trailed in the division since entering play a game back on April 21st. The Pelicans play 11 more games in the first half, but none against the Dash.

ALL-STARS.. The Pelicans have five midseason All-Star selections, the most in the Carolina League. Right-handers Nick Martinez, Luke Jackson and Alec Asher join infielders Rougned Odor and Luis Sardinas. The California League and Carolina League announced their All-Star rosters today in anticipation of the 2013 California-Carolina League All-Star Game at Municipal Stadium on June 18.

STREAKING ... Rougned Odor's eight-game hitting streak came to a close Wednesday with an 0-for-4. This season Odor has pieced together three streaks of at least seven games. The second baseman has 59 hits in 56 games this season and has the top batting average on the team. He's hit safely in eight of his last nine games.

UP NEXT ... The Pelicans return home on Monday, June 10, to play the Frederick Keys. The Pelicans are scheduled to play eight home games in the final seven days of the first half. Monday will be a "Make a Splash Monday" presented by HTC - fans who bring in an item listed on the "Backpack Buddies" donation list will receive half priced admission.

COACHING STAFF ... Jason Wood returns for his third season as the Pelicans skipper and his fifth as a coach in the Rangers system. He is the only Carolina League skipper to have guided his team to back-to-back postseasons in 2011 and 2012. His staff includes pitching coach Steve Mintz, hitting coach Josue Perez and assistant Humberto Miranda - all three in their first year with the Birds.
