Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

Four Myrtle Beach Pelicans pitchers combined to limit the Wilmington BlueRocks to just four hits Saturday in a 5-0 shutout victory in front of 4,270 fans at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans and BlueRocks wrap up the home stand tomorrow afternoon.

Left-hander Victor Payano (1-0) got the win for the Pelicans, hurling 5.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. The southpaw struck out the side in the fourth inning and had a stretch of four straight strikeouts dating back to the third inning.

Second baseman Rougned Odor clubbed his second home run in as many nights, finishing 2-for-5 on the night. Zach Cone also added two hits for the Pelicans, who have amassed 23 hits in their first two games.

The Pelicans scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. Chris Grayson added an RBI single and Patrick Cantwell contributed an RBI-groundout.

The Pelicans added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before Odor's line drive long ball in the eighth.

Trailing 2-0 in the sixth, the Blue Rocks threatened to claw back. Payano loaded the bases and gave way to right-hander Arlett Mavare, who induced an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

Drew Robinson added an RBI single in the seventh inning and finished 1-for-4.

Right-hander Nick Martinez worked the seventh and eighth innings scoreless before Joe Van Meter recorded the final three outs of the game.

The Pelicans (2-0) and BlueRocks (0-2) play again Sunday at 3:05 p.m. as part of Military Appreciation Day from TicketReturn.com Field. It is also a "Family Sunday," where fans can play pregame catch on the field.

Right-hander Jerad Eickhoff will face right-hander Kyle Smith. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 918-6000 or online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com. The Pelicans are celebrating their 15th Anniversary on the Grand Strand.
