Payusov Announces Commitment to UCONN

Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Capitols received a commitment from yet another player on Monday as Alex "Sasha" Payusov (LaSalle, Quebec) announced he will play his college hockey for the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Payusov, 17, has had a wonderful first season in Madison, registering 11 goals and ten assists over 32 games played. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound Canadian winger of Russian descent produced the highlight reel play of the year in a Capitols' win over the Lincoln Stars on Dec. 18 on home ice.

Payusov picked up a pass in the offensive zone on the right wing side, spun 360 degrees to juke a defender, and twirled a backhand pass onto the tape of Sam McCormick, who pumped home the eventual game winning goal in the third period.

Payusov began his Capitols career with a bang, registering his first three goals as a Capitol on the same night against Team USA on Oct. 16 in an 8-1 trouncing.

Payusov is now the third Capitol to commit to the University of Connecticut, joining 2014-15 Capitol Marco Richter and current teammate Tyson McLellan. The Capitols' three UCONN commits are second most of any NCAA school behind Ohio State (four).

The Capitols end their season-long seven-game homestand next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23, against the U.S. NTDP (U17's) for 7:05 p.m. puck drops at the Alliant Energy Center. Friday is another WJJO $1 Beer Night, while Saturday is Outdoors Night, presented by Cabela's and 101.5 WIBA-FM. The first 500 fans in attendance on Jan. 23 will receive specialty orange Capitols' hats, courtesy of Cabela's.
