PawSox Streak to Third Straight Win

Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. -- Intersecting for the third straight night in their four-game series, the Pawtucket Red Sox continued traveling in a different direction than the Gwinnett Braves, recording a 4-1 victory Wednesday before just 2,202 at Coolray Field.
The PawSox have now won three in a row for the first time since sweeping a series from Rochester on April 11-14. Meanwhile, the Braves have staggered through 11 consecutive losses, failing to score more than two runs for the 10th time in that span.
For the second time in three days, Mark Hamilton put Pawtucket ahead right away. After a home run on Monday, Hamilton grounded a sharp single to right field off Yohan Flande to score Jonathan Diaz for a 1-0 advantage. Diaz led off the game with a single, followed by a single from Jose Iglesias, making his first start since Saturday.
Terry Doyle, pitching on three days' rest, responded by quickly retiring the side in order the bottom half. In fact, Doyle (W, 3-2) retired the first eight batters faced, bouncing back from two straight losses to log 5.0 scoreless innings.
The Sox gave him more support in the fourth, when Ronald Bermudez produced his second double off Flande (L, 1-3), advanced to third on a balk and scored on Matty Johnson's ground ball.
Bermudez added two more runs in his next at-bat by scoring Hamilton, who doubled, and Jeremy Hazelbaker, who reached on a fielder's choice, with a two-RBI single.
Though Pawtucket had just one more base runner, Gwinnett could manage only a run in the seventh. Alden Carrithers doubled off reliever Oscar Villareal to score Paul Janish, following his bunt single. But Villareal and closer Anthony Carter (S, 3) combined to set down the final seven hitters.
Bermudez, Hamilton and Diaz each enjoyed a muli-hit performance, accounting for seven of their club's nine hits.
The PawSox (20-13) bid for a series sweep Thursday at 10:35 a.m., when Steven Wright (1-1, 1.69) is slated to oppose the Braves' Roman Colon (0-1, 4.32).
