Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes introduced top picks Pavel Gogolev and Semyon Der-Arguchintsev on Friday afternoon at a press conference in the Pat Casey Alumni Room at the PMC.
"We're excited to formally introduce Pavel and Semyon to the Peterborough community before they return to Russia to complete their high school equivalency exams this summer," said Petes General Manager Mike Oke.
Gogolev ("GO-go-Lev"), a 6'0", 162lbs left winger, scored 38 goals, 30 assists, and 68 points in 46 games with the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland, Ontario this past season. He spent the previous several seasons with the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia. His older brother Alexander Gogolev played with the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.
"I'm an offensive player and I hope to score lots of goals for the Petes next year," said Gogolev, the 8th overall pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection. "My brother played junior hockey in Calgary, so I know that it's a really fast league and the players are really good."
Der-Arguchintsev ("Dehr ARR-Gu-CHINT-Sev"), a skilled 5'9", 145lbs centre, has spent the last two seasons with the CIH Academy. He was the league-leading scorer in 2015-16 with 21 goals, 49 assists, and 70 points in 46 games played.
"I've heard a lot about the history of Peterborough and the great players from the Petes like Steve Yzerman," added Der-Arguchintsev, who was the 27th overall pick earlier this month. "I like to be a playmaker and I'm trying to get better at defence, too."
Petes Development Camp, which will be a showcase of several prospects, is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at the PMC.
