Paulson's Strong Effort Leads RubberDucks over Harrisburg
August 25, 2018 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Jake Paulson hurled seven innings to earn his eighth win, and Li-Jen Chu drilled his first Double-A homer, as the RubberDucks dispatched the Harrisburg Senators, 6-2, Saturday night at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
Already holding a 2-1 lead, the RubberDucks (74-57) scored three runs in the third inning to build a 5-1 lead against Wil Crowe (0-4). Andrew Calica socked a one-out, solo homer, and Chu later blasted a two-run shot to left. Calica's homer was his sixth of the year and his first since June 25th. It was the first homer at the Double-A level for Chu, who has been with the team since August 13th. He hit eight at Single-A Lynchburg before his call-up.
Mound Presence
Paulson (8-5) was outstanding in his seven innings of work. He allowed a pair of solo homers to Dan Johnson in the first and Dan Gamache in the fourth. Beyond that, the right-hander was in command. He did not issue a walk and struck out five. Nick Sandlin followed Paulson and recorded a pair of outs in the eighth, but also gave up two hits. He left in favor of lefty RC Orlan with runners on the corners, and Orlan fanned Gamache to end the threat. He stayed on to finish off the Senators (64-64) in the ninth to notch his second save.
Duck Tales
Daniel Salters stroked a two-run single off Crowe in the second inning to give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Nellie Rodriguez gave the Ducks some insurance with an RBI double in the eight. Calica finished 3-4 on the night.
