Pats Look to Bounce Back Saturday against Medicine

The Regina Pats (15-14-2-0) are right back at it on Saturday night when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers (17-11-2-0). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats dropped a 7-5 decision at home to the Kelowna Rockets on Friday night. The Tigers were in Brandon on Friday and lost 4-3 in overtime to the Wheat Kings. Tonight is the second of four meetings on the year between Regina and Medicine Hat, the Pats hold a 0-1-0-0 record so far in the season series. The game can be heard starting at 6:35 with Bennett Dunlop Ford Pats Hockey on 620 CKRM.

The Lead Up: Pats drop 7-5 decision to Kelowna Friday

The Regina Pats fell 7-5 at home to the Kelowna Rockets on Teddy Bear Toss night at the Brandt Centre Friday. Regina led 4-3 after the first period thanks to a pair of goals from both Josh Mahura and Nick Henry. Mahura scored the teddy bear goal four minutes into the game. The Rockets responded with two in the second and two more in the third to take the lead 7-4, Mahura would complete his hattrick on the powerplay with his 11th of the year in the final minute but the Pats would fall 7-5 on home ice. Regina outshot Kelowna 37-32, the powerplay was two for four and the penalty kill one for one. Mahura led the offence with four points, Matt Bradley had three while Sam Steel and Nick Henry put up two. Tyler Brown made 19 saves in just over two periods of work, Max Paddock came in and stopped six of seven.

Head to Head

The Pats are 0-1-0-0 against Medicine Hat so far in 2017-18, losing 4-2 on the road in their first meeting on October 6. Emil Oksanen had two assists in the loss for Regina while Wyatt Sloboshan and George King scored the goals. The Tigers were led by David Quenneville who had three assists while Tyler Prezuiso scored once and added a helper. The Pats went 2-2-0-0 against Medicine Hat last season and over the last four years, hold a record of 8-4-0-1, going 3-3-0-0 at the Brandt Centre. The Tigers currently lead the Central Division with 36 points while Regina sits in the first wildcard playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 32 points in the standings.

First Hattrick

Pats defenceman Josh Mahura scored his first career WHL hattrick on Friday as part of a four point effort against the Kelowna Rockets. The 19-year-old scored twice in the first, including the teddy bear toss goal, and added a powerplay marker in the third to round out the scoring. The signed prospect of the Anaheim Ducks has four goals and two assists in his last three games and sits in first amongst all WHL defenceman with 11 goals and is tied for seventh with 28 points on the year.

Henry Rolling

Pats forward Nick Henry scored twice on Friday and is enjoying his best offensive stretch of the season. The Colorado Avalanche prospect has three goals and six assists in his last five games and is up to 11 points in 12 games on the year. The 18-year-old has gone plus five in that stretch.
