Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (14-12, 56-40) shut out the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (11-16, 49-47) 1-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.
Kyle Roller provided the Patriots and starting pitcher David Kubiak (5-8) all the offense they needed with a solo home run (15) in the second inning.
Kubiak pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out seven batters to earn the win.
"I made some pitches when I had to, but putting up seven zeroes, I would take that any day of the week," said Kubiak. "My breaking ball has been good. That's really what got me through tonight."
Gaby Hernandez (8-2) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on three hits and seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
Ronnie Shaban closed out the game to earn his ninth save of the season.
