St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps bounced back from a tough overtime loss Friday to grab two points in a 1-0 win over the Norfolk Admirals Saturday at The Scope in Norfolk, VA.
Spencer Machacek, fresh off a week-long training camp in Winnipeg, scored the game's only goal in the second period, notching his ninth of the season to tie him for the team lead. Eddie Pasquale stopped all 28 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season.
Both teams were unable to capitalize on the plethora of power play opportunities. St. John's went 0-for-8 with the man advantage while Norfolk went 0-for-5.
After outshooting the Admirals 10-5 in the first period, the IceCaps were outshot 23-10 the rest of the way, with Pasquale coming up big down the stretch.
After a scoreless first period, St. John's struck first midway through the second on a goal by Machacek, who was playing his first game since being returned to the IceCaps from Winnipeg. Just after an Admirals penalty to Nate Guenin expired, Max Macenauer sent a pass across to Machacek at the right circle, and the Alberta native one-timed a shot past Viktor Fasth to give the visitors a 1-0 lead that would ultimately stand up for the duration of the contest.
The IceCaps have now won two-of-three and have gained a point in three straight games. St. John's sits just five points back of the Worcester Sharks for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The IceCaps travel to Binghamton Sunday for a Monday night matchup against the Senators at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
