Parker Bridwell Named SAL Pitcher of the Week

August 19, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) - Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to announce that right-handed pitcher Parker Bridwell has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 12 through August 18.

On August 16, Bridwell delivered one of the finest single-game pitching performance in franchise history against the Lakewood BlueClaws at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. In eight scoreless innings, he yielded two hits while striking out 14 batters without issuing a walk. The 14 strikeouts are the most by a Shorebirds pitcher since the 2000 season, when Erik Bedard struck out 14 in a nine-inning complete game against Hickory.

Bridwell ranks second in the South Atlantic League with 131 strikeouts. He leads all Orioles minor league pitchers in strikeouts.

In 23 starts for the Shorebirds this season, Bridwell is 8-9 with a 4.87 ERA. In addition to strikeouts, the 22-year old leads the Shorebirds pitching staff in innings pitched (125.2) and wins (8).

Bridwell was selected in the ninth round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles out of Hereford, Texas.

Bridwell is the second Shorebirds pitcher to earn a weekly honor from the South Atlantic League. Matt Taylor was named the SAL Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 8 through July 14.
