Panelists Confirmed for Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit

MONTREAL, Wednesday, August 24, 2011 - The 2011 Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit steering committee today announced the four panellists for the event's fourth session: Recruitment and Retention of Players. The guest speaker for the fourth session on Saturday, August 27 is Dr. Norm O'Reilly.
Marc Denis is a former first-round NHL draft pick who spent 12 NHL seasons with Colorado, Columbus, Tampa Bay and Montreal. Denis also represented Canada on the international stage four times, winning three gold medals. He backstopped Canada to gold medals at the 1996 and 1997 IIHF World Junior Championships, winning Top Goaltender honours in 1997, and also played for Canada at the 2004 and 2006 IIHF World Championships, capturing gold in 2004. Currently, Denis works as an analyst for RDS.
Danièle Sauvageau was head coach of Canada's National Women's Hockey Team at the 2001 IIHF World Women's Championship and 2002 Olympic Winter Games, winning gold at both events. Sauvageau was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Service de police de la Ville de Montréal for 21 years, serving five years in the narcotics division. In 1999-2000, she was named an assistant coach with the Montreal Rocket of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the first female coach in QMJHL history.
Richard Ouellet played four years with the Patriotes de l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) under head coaches Clément Jodoin and Danny Dubé. He is the president of the Association québécoise des arénas et des installations récréatives et sportives du Québec (L'AQAIRS) and sits on the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Board of Directors while representing the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He currently works in the recreation department for the City of Baie-Comeau.
Martin Raymond was hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning as an assistant coach on July 20, 2010 after previously serving under head coach Guy Boucher with the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) during the 2009-10 season. Raymond served as the head coach of the McGill University Redmen for 14 seasons prior to joining the Bulldogs. Before starting his coaching career, Raymond played five seasons at McGill, registering 109 goals and 253 points in 154 career games. He won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 1991 Spengler Cup.
The Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit's theme is to address the challenges facing hockey in the Province of Quebec today. Discussion will revolve around four main topics:
- Long-term player development: Exploring opportunities for development based on age; analyzing the development arc; actions currently being taken in Quebec; challenges facing development in Quebec.
- Player development through the Program of Excellence: Development opportunities for 16-year-old players and older; options following their internship; actions currently being taken in Quebec.
- Creating a safe environment through positive behaviour and attitude: Issues facing player health, including concussions; studies on hockey injuries; impact of rules; importance of adequately utilizing body checks and how players can better protect themselves on the ice.
- Recruitment and retention of players: Presentation of the demographic statistics from the Province of Quebec; Hockey Québec membership; new activities and initiatives; women's hockey.
The 2011 Molson Export Quebec Hockey Summit will be held at the Bell Centre in Montreal on August 26 and 27. The public is invited to participate. A very limited number of tickets are still available for the event.
