Chillicothe Paints News Release

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints (2-0), presented by Adena Health System, got seven good innings from starter Michael Houdek (1-0) in a 4-1 win over the Champion City Kings (0-1) Friday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

Houdek, from the College of Wooster, allowed just one run on three hits, struck out three and didn't walk a batter to earn his first win of the season. Brady Ward came in to start the eighth and struck out the only two batters he faced and then gave way to Bryce Arledge, who struck out the only batter he faced.

David Stover made his Paints debut in the ninth and struck out two in a perfect inning of work to earn his first save of the season.

Chillicothe got on the board first; Jamie Lackner smacked an RBI double past a diving Cale Dineen at second base. The ball hit Dineen's glove and redirected past the oncoming right fielder, allowing Lacker to take second base.

Champion City tied the game at one in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI double by Dante Key, scoring Logan Hayes, who singled to start the inning.

Chillicothe's Nick Ryan led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple and scored two batters later, thanks to Jake Horew's eventual game-winning RBI sacrifice fly to center field, giving the Paints a 2-1 lead after five innings.

The Paints added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. Eli Boggess drove in Dylan Shockley with a triple and Michael Blatchford beat out a potential double play, allowing Boggess to score to put the Paints up 4-1, the eventual final score.

Champion City's starter Brogan Fischer (0-1) took the loss. He pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. The left-hander walked one and struck out one.

The Paints and Kings play again Saturday night at VA Memorial Stadium at 7:05 p.m. for "Pepsi Cola Pastime", giving fans the opportunity to win prizes throughout the game. Kids 12 and under eat FREE!
