Padres Win to Get within One of First

May 9, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres scored a season-high eight runs in the fifth inning Wednesday, rallying them to an 8-3 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes at Kino Stadium. The win was the fifth straight for the Padres, who are now one game out of first place in the South Division.

The Padres didn't have a baserunner until one out in the fifth inning but then sent 11 consecutive hitters to the plate before the second out of the fifth. The eight-run rally put the Padres ahead 8-1. The rally included RBI hits from Rene Rivera, Daniel Robertson, Dean Anna and the first professional hit for Tucson pitcher Thad Weber before Albuquerque starter Matt Palmer was removed from the game.

After a pitching change, James Darnell hit a two-run double to left to give Tucson a five-run cushion. The Padres added two more runs on a bases-loaded walk by Galvez and an RBI single from Rivera. The fifth was the only inning that the Padres had a runner reach base.

Weber improved to 4-1 on the season with the win after going six innings and allowing one earned run. Padres reliever Wilfredo Boscan earned a save after pitching the final three innings of the game, while Palmer was charged with the loss for Albuquerque.

Next Game: Thursday, 7:05 pm vs. Albuquerque (Dodgers affiliate) - Tucson RHP Eddie Bonine (0-2, 5.32) vs. Albuquerque RHP Angel Castro (2-2, 3.30). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com. Thirsty Thursday drink specials begin at 6:00 pm.
