P-Nats Shut out Hillcats to Open Trip

Potomac Nationals News Release
(LYNCHBURG, VA) Five has been the magic number for the Potomac Nationals in the month of June: when they have scored more than five runs, they have won. Any less than five has meant a Potomac loss - until Thursday night in Lynchburg. The P-Nats pitching staff combined for their fifth shutout of the season, and Potomac opened their final road trip of the first half with a 3-0 victory.
Evan Bronson was spotted a lead right out of the gates, and he ran with it.
Potomac scored two in the top of the first inning off Hillcats starter Mark Serrano. Chris Curran led the game off with a double off the wall in right. Derek Norris walked with two outs, and Bill Rhinehart scored them both with a double to deep right.
Bronson allowed just three hits (two of which were extra base hits by Cody Puckett) through the first five innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
Derek Norris tacked on another run in the top of the sixth with a massive home run to left, his second of the season.
In the bottom half of the frame, Bronson and the Nats got in their only jam of the night. Josh Fellhauer led off with a single, and after Bronson solved Puckett for the first time all night for the first out, Carlos Mendez roped a double down the line in left to put runners at second and third with one out.
Justin Phillabaum was summoned from the bullpen, and he deftly worked out of the jam. The righthander got Alex Buchholz to ground out and struck out Kevin Coddington. Phillabaum then sent the Hillcats down in order in the seventh and eighth inning to complete his most impressive outing of the year.
The Nats called upon Joe Bisenius in the ninth, and he mowed down the Hillcats in order with a couple strikeouts to earn his first save.
The clubs will resume the series Friday night at 7:05 P.M. The righthander Adrian Alaniz will go for the Nats against James Avery. The broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:50.
