P-Nats Get Quick Start in 6-3 Win at Myrtle Beach

Potomac Nationals News Release
(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) - The Potomac Nationals scored four in the first inning and two in the second en route to a 6-3 win over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at TicketReturn.com Field. The P-Nats (2-3) drew six walks during the first two frames and take the three-game series with the Pelicans (2-3).
Myrtle sent RHP Wilmer Font (0-1) to the mound in his second appearance off Tommy John surgery. Font didn't record an out facing six Potomac batters. He started by walking Michael Taylor, Blake Kelso and Sean Nicol the gave up an RBI single to David Freitas, who ended up with another three hit game. Justin Bloxom walked with the bases loaded and Kevin Keyes hit a two run single to give the Nationals a 4-0 lead after one.
The Nationals added two more in the second inning off reliever Chad Bell. Nicol was driven in on a Bloxom double down the left field line and Freitas scored in a wild pitch as the Nationals took a 6-0 in the second.
The Pelicans bullpen would toss seven scoreless innings the rest of the way although Potomac would threaten multiple times stranding 12 total base runners including leaving the base loaded in the sixth. However, the Nats wouldn't need more than six runs thanks in part to starter RHP Matt Swynenberg (1-0).
On a day when the wind was blowing out, the sinker baller Swynenberg was able to avoid trouble by having just one of his 15 outs recorded via a fly out to the outfield. The crooked number on the scoreboard for the Pelicans came in the fourth inning. Jake Skole hit a two-run double and scored on a groundout by Santiago Chirino to cut the Nationals lead to 6-3.
But the Nationals bullpen was even better than the Pelicans. Trevor Holder tossed two scoreless innings. Holder was in trouble in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out, but the Nationals turned a pivotal 6-4-3 double play started by Manassas native Brent Greet in his first game for Potomac to end the threat. Lefty Ryan Demmin picked up his first save of the year by retiring six of the seven batters he faced.
The Nationals finish their series in South Carolina Thursday as RHP Kyle Winters (0-1) gets the start for Potomac against RHP Cody Buckel (0-0) of Myrtle Beach. Start time is set for 7:05 p.m. The P-Nats return home for their first series of the year starting Friday, April 13 with Opening Night at 7:05 p.m. with Lynchburg.
