P-Bruins Fall to Pirates 5-4

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Portland Pirates 5-4 Saturday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Chris Collins, Pascal Pelletier and two goals from Jeff Hoggan. The 19-4-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Wednesday at The Dunkin' Donuts Center to take on the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. Providence is now two points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack with two games in hand.
In the opening period, Portland scored the first three goals to open up a 3-0 advantage. At the 1:22 mark, Matt Christie tallied his second goal of the season with Joe Callahan and Ryan Dingle picking up the assists. Just over a minute later at the 2:54 mark, Andrew Ebbett scored his seventh goal of the season with Tyler Bouck and Callahan recording the assists. At the 4:07 mark, Matt Keith tallied his fourth goal of the season with Ebbett grabbing the lone assist. Providence answered back with their lone goal of the opening period. At the 13:29 mark, Matt Lashoff blocked a shot in his own zone and passed the puck to Pelletier. He sent it up the left boards to Collins who slapped the puck into the Pirates net from the left face off circle. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission trailing 3-1.
In the second period, the P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 7:07 mark. Collins took a shot towards the net from the right face off circle. The puck went off of Matt Hendricks, directly to Hoggan who scored. Portland regained their two goal advantage with just under four minutes later at the 11:06 mark. Bruno St. Jacques tallied his first goal with the Pirates this season as Petteri Wirtanen and Simon Ferguson had the assists. The Pirates went into the second intermission with a 4-2 lead.
Providence pulled back within a goal at the 4:04 mark of the third period. Martins Karsums had the puck at the left point and passed it down the boards to Brett Skinner. He sent a centering pass to Pelletier at the high slot. Pelletier took a shot and it went off a Pirates player in front of the net and in. Portland retook a two goal advantage shoring a 5-on-3 shorthanded goal at the 11:20 mark. Christie tallied his second goal of the game with Callahan picking up his third assist of the game. While still on the power play, the P-Bruins answered right back. Pelletier worked the puck to Dwayne Zinger at the blue line. He shot the puck and the rebound went to Hoggan, who scored to bring Providence back within a goal. The P-Bruins were unable to get any closer and fell 5-4.
Andy Franck stopped 16 of 21 shots for the P-Bruins, while Gerald Coleman made 31 saves for the Pirates. The P-Bruins were 1-for-9 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins wrap up their then game home stand with two games next week. Wednesday the P-Bruins face the Devils at 7:05 p.m. Friday, the P-Bruins are home against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers also at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins also have a home game Sunday versus the Houston Aeros for Pascal Pelletier poster night at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
