P-Bruins Drop Final Game of Road Trip 3-1 to Penguins

*Wilkes-Barre, PA - *The Providence Bruins fell to the WIlkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight in Wilkes-Barre, PA by a final score of 3-1. Danton Heinen scored the only goal for Providence, while Malcolm Subban stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced.
The first period played out evenly, with the two teams effectively trading shots and power play opportunities. Wilkes-Barre outshot Providence 8-7 in the frame, while penalties were called on Penguins forward Josh Archibald at 10:25 (Tripping) and Providence defenseman Matt Grzelcyk at 16:54 (Interference) without resulting in a score. Malcolm Subban earned his second straight start between the pipes for Providence after a stellar 38 save performance the previous night again Binghamton. Wilkes-Barre managed the only goal of the period when Jean-Sebastien Dea beat Subban for his fourth of the season 7:01 into the period, assisted by Sahir Gill and Ryan Haggerty.
Providence increased the intensity in the second period, outshooting the Penguins 12-8 behind two power play opportunities. The first came early in the period when Reid McNeill was whistled for High-Sticking at 2:03. After killing the penalty Wilkes-Barre earned a power play of their own, when Bruins forward Tyler Randell was called for Tripping at 6:01. While the power play proved unsuccessful, the Penguins managed to score just as the penalty expired when Oskar Sundqvist scores at 8:01 to give Wilkes-Barre a 2-0 lead. The goal was Sundqvist's fifth of the season, assisted by Garrett Wilson and Kevin Porter. Providence continued to push play in the period and found themselves with a chance to get back in the game with a late power play opportunity. Wilkes-Barre's Reid McNeill was called for his second penalty of the night, earning a trip to the box for Tripping at 19:18. Providence couldn't break through on the man-advantage as the period ended however, with the Penguins leading 2-0.
Providence began the third period with a 1:18 power play, carried over from the end of the second. While the Bruins failed to capitalize on the man advantage, it wouldn't be their last. At 7:53 in the third, Reid McNeill was called for his third penalty of the game, this time for Delay of Game, giving Providence another chance to get on the board. Providence finally took advantage of the opportunity as Danton Heinen registered his third of the season, assisted by Alex Grant and Peter Cehlarik, to cut the lead to 2-1. Play settled for the remainder of the period, with the two teams trading shots once again, and Providence successfully killing a penalty after Mark Naclerio was whistled for Hooking at 13:29. The P-Bruins pulled goaltender Malcolm Subban in the closing minutes of the period, in an attempt to secure the game-tying goal. The effort would prove unsuccessful however, as Jake Guentzel scored an empty-net goal at 19:31, his sixth of the season, to seal the Penguins win by a final score of 3-1.
Providence returns home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, November 18 at 7:05 to take on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
