Owings Added to 2013 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game

RENO, Nev.- Reno Aces shortstop Chris Owings has been added to the U.S. roster for the 15th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, to take place on Sunday, July 14 at Citi Field in New York, Major League Baseball announced today.

Owings is taking the place of Seattle Mariners shortstop Brad Miller, who made his Major League debut on Friday. Earlier today, it was also announced that Owings will represent the Aces on the Pacific Coast League squad at the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game. In addition to these honors, he was named the D-backs organizational Player of the Month for the third-consecutive month.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a star in his first season at the Triple-A level. He leads all of professional baseball in hits (130) and ranks second in the PCL in batting average (.353). Owings also ranks first in the PCL in runs scored (69), is tied for first in total bases (179) and ranked fifth in RBI (55). Last month, Owings became the first batter in Aces franchise history to record 40 or more hits in three consecutive months. He entered the season ranked the D-backs No. 6 prospect by MLB.com and No. 7 by Baseball America.

Owings was selected by the D-backs in the supplemental first round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Gilbert High School in South Carolina.

Last week, it was announced that Aces third baseman Matt Davidson and RHP Archie Bradley of the Mobile Bay Bears will represent the D-backs in the Futures Game. Davidson entered the 2013 season rated by Baseball America and MLB.com as the No. 4 prospect in the D-backs organization. Baseball America also cited Davidson as the Best Power Hitter in the Arizona system.

The Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 8-6. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) and can be viewed live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.com.

SiriusXM, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of Major League Baseball, will provide live play-by-play coverage of the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89; Sirius channel 209) in addition to SiriusXM's other comprehensive live coverage from New York. The game will also be available to SiriusXM subscribers on the SiriusXM Internet Radio App for smart phones and mobile devices and online at SiriusXM.com. Taco Bell All-Star Sunday is the first of three days of All-Star events at Citi Field, culminating with the 84th All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16.
