Outlaws Trade for Gibson, Select 12 in Supplemental Draft
DENVER - The Denver Outlaws selected 12 players in the 2014 MLL Supplemental Draft and traded midfielder Justin Turri to the New York Lizards for attackman Matt Gibson the team announced on Thursday.
"We are excited to be able to bring a player of Matt Gibson's ability and character to our organization," Outlaws General Manager Tony Seaman said. "He is an outstanding player who can score goals in a variety of ways. He adds good depth to our attack unit."
The MLL's Cascade Rookie of the Year in 2012, Gibson has scored 22 goals with 20 assists for 42 points with 24 ground balls in his first two Major League Lacrosse seasons.
Last season, Gibson posted four goals with five assists in six appearances for the Lizards before suffering a concussion that ended his season. He scored 18 goals and added 15 assists in 12 games as a rookie in 2012, earning a pair of Rookie of the Week honor and an All-Star selection. His assist total ranked fifth among rookies in league history at the time and his point total was ninth.
Turri scored nine goals, including a pair of two-pointers, with four assists to finish with 15 points in his first season with the Outlaws in 2013. He netted four goals with five assists as a rookie for Charlotte in 2012.
Overall, the Outlaws added five defensemen, three attackmen, two midfielders and two goalies in the 2014 MLL Supplemental Draft. Please see below for a list of the 12 players that the team selected.
