Erie Otters News Release
The 2018 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship are underway in Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, Russia and the Erie Otters will be represented by their 2017 first round CHL Import pick Stephane Patry as he competes for his native country Switzerland.
The tournament runs from Thursday, April 19 to Sunday, April 29, and features the best under-18 hockey talent in the world. Teams will compete in preliminary group play before advancing to the elimination rounds. The Swiss are featured in Group A with Canada, Sweden, United States, and Belarus, but have gotten off to a slow start with losses in their first two games.
Patry, a 5'11" and 163-pound forward, has been in the lineup for Switzerland in each of their first two contests, scoring a goal against the United States on Friday in an 8-5 loss. The Geneva, Switzerland native was an invite to his home country's IIHF Under-20 World Junior Championship preliminary camp back in December but did not make the final roster. The 18-year-old appeared in 50 games for the Erie Otters during the 2017-18 season recording five goals and nine assists for 14 points in his first year playing in North America.
