October 29, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release

With undefeated goaltender Troy Timpano starting in net, the Erie Otters decisively defeated the Saginaw Spirit, 6-0.

The Otters jumped to the lead early in the first period: Brett Neumann, quite possibly the fastest Erie skater, entered the zone and hit Patrick Fellows with a tape-to-tape pass. Fellows, in for a partial breakaway on Saginaw goaltender Evan Cormier, deked to his backhand and slipped the puck past the goal line to give Erie the 1-0 lead. The Otters tightened their stranglehold further into the first period. Taylor Raddysh, Tampa Bay's 58th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, jammed the puck past Cormier during a scrum in front of the Saginaw net. Then, less than two minutes later, Patrick Fellows deked to his backhand again on Cormier and scored his second goal of the game, giving Erie the 3-0 lead to close out the period. It was Fellows' first multi-goal game, and his second multi-point effort against Saginaw (Mark Scheig, The Hockey Writers). Erie closed out the first period with the 3-0 lead.

Erie's Ivan Lodnia, one of NHL Central Scouting's "players to watch" for the 2017 NHL Draft, wristed a shot in close on Cormier and scored his eighth goal of the season. Christian Girhiny, whose pass set up Lodnia for the goal, received the only assist on the play. Later, the Otters, on the power play, scored a fifth to bury Saginaw midway through the second period: Gera Poddubnyi redirected Brett Neumann's slapshot for his third goal of the season. Ivan Lodnia received a secondary assist on the goal.

Saginaw swapped goaltenders to start the third period, with Brendan Bonello coming in to man the crease in exchange for Evan Cormier. Cormier, the 105th overall pick for the New Jersey Devils in 2016, surrendered 5 goals on 22 shots.

The third period was largely uneventful on the scoreboard. Erie's Carson Edwardson dropped the gloves for his second fight of the year. After the fight, Brett Neumann crashed Saginaw's net to tap in a loose puck, giving the Otters a 6-0 lead. Saginaw was unable to solve Otters goaltender Troy Timpano throughout the game, resulting in Erie's shutout win.

Brett Neumann had one goal and three assists for a four point night; Ivan Lodnia had one goal and two assists; and Patrick Fellows had two goals. Troy Timpano, acquired by the Otters from Sudbury during the offseason, had a 27 save shutout and registered his eighth win this season; Timpano is undefeated with the Otters, and has two shutouts in his eight starts. Evan Cormier stopped 17 of 22 shots for the Spirit. Cormier was replaced by Brendan Bonello for the third period, who surrendered one goal on fourteen shots in the loss for Saginaw.

Erie continues its homestand against the Guelph Storm on November 2, where the Otters look to continue their three-game winning streak.
