Billings Mustangs News Release

MISSOULA, Montana - The Billings Mustangs (12-11, 35-26) lost in walk-off fashion Wednesday, falling 3-2 to the Missoula Osprey (12-11, 28-33) at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.

The Mustangs took the first lead right away, scoring a run in the top of the first. T.J. Friedl and Michael Beltre started the game with back-to-back doubles. Frield would score on the double of Beltre. It was Friedl's 11th extra-base hit in 17 professional games.

Zac Correll made just his second start of the season for the Mustangs, the righty out of Massachusetts got through four frames of shutout baseball, giving up only two hits and striking out three.

Billings extended their lead to 2-0 when Morgan Lofstrom scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. They were able to load the bases with no outs, but just brought in one run in the inning off Missoula starter Trevor Simms. Simms went five innings in the start, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out five.

The Osprey then struck in the fifth and sixth to tie things up at 2-2. Paxton De La Garza singled to score Logan Soole in the fifth while Tanner Hill homered in the sixth to draw the game even.

The game would remain tied going into the bottom of the ninth. Jacy Cave singled to lead off the frame and was replaced at first on the unsuccessful sacrifice bunt of Logan Soole. Soole advanced to second on the single of Jasrado Chisholm to begin a murky end to the game. The Mustangs defense believed time to be out and began a mound conference, the Osprey offense thinking otherwise advanced Soole from second all the way home to score the winning run and end the game. The Mustang defense and coaching staff stayed on the field following the conclusion of the game to get an explanation from the umpiring crew, but the call would stand.

Billings and Missoula will face off in the third game of their four-game series Thursday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
