ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators have added free agent defensive lineman Monte Lewis and acquired offensive lineman Sam Longo from the Portland Steel in exchange for future considerations.
Longo (6-4, 300, Cincinnati) started eight games along the offensive line as a rookie with Portland in 2015, where he played under current Predators line coach Clay Harrell. Following the AFL seasoin, he signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and became a starter late in the season.
Longo began his collegiate career at Ohio State before transferring to the University of Cincinnati, where he played in 25 games and earned Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference accolades as a senior in 2013.
He signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and later attended training camp with the Houston Texans after being claimed off waivers.
Lewis (6-4, 265, Jacksonville State) returns to the Predators after starting the final regular season game and the opening round playoff game for the team in 2015. Lewis totaled 90 tackles with eight sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick during his college career at Jacksonville State, where he earned All- Ohio Valley Conference accolades as a senior in 2011.
Lewis signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012 and later moved on to the Canadian Football League, where he registered two tackles for the Ottawa REDBLACKS in 2014. He also attended training camp with the San Jose SaberCats entering the 2015 AFL season.
The Orlando Predators open the 2016 season on the road against the Tampa Bay Storm this Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game will air live on Bright House Sports Network (Channel 47, HD 1147) and can also be viewed on ESPN3/Watch ESPN.
