Orem Snaps Mustangs' Win Streak With 16-7 Drubbing

The Orem Owlz (18-12) had no problem taking care of the Billings Mustangs (18-11) on Monday, picking up a 16-7 win in front of 2,758 at Dehler Park. The loss snaps both Billings' six-game overall win streak as well as their nine-game home winning streak, both of which were tied for the longest streaks in Dehler Park history.
Moises Nova (0-4) was not able to make it out of the second in the start for Billings, giving up four runs on four hits while walking three. The Mustangs pitching staff as a whole walked 10 batters, a new season-high.
Orem was able to score in eight of their nine innings at the plate, scoring the most runs the Mustangs have allowed this season. Five Owlz would have multi-hit performances, including the 4-for-6 outing of Connor Justus who added in five RBI.
Billings was able to score two in the fourth when both Taylor Trammell and John Sansone doubled in the inning. Alejo Lopez also added in an RBI single. Sansone finished 3-for-5 at the plate, but would commit five errors in the field.
Orem made their lead untouchable in the seventh when they scored six runs off reliever Alfredo Mena. It was the most runs in an inning allowed by Billings this season.
The Mustangs would not go down quietly, however, plating four over the last two frames. Three runs scored in the ninth off Samil De Los Santos who struggled on the hill for Orem. Ty Blankmeyer added in an RBI single to score Sansone. Blankmeyer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
The win keeps the Owlz in a tie for first place in the Pioneer League Southern Division and drops the Mustangs' lead in the North to two and a half games over the second place Great Falls Voyagers (16-14).
Billings and Orem will conclude their four-game series Tuesday at Dehler Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
