Opening Weekend Crowd Sets Spikes Record

STATE COLLEGE, PA --- The State College Spikes first two home games this past Friday and Sunday drew a total of 10,079 fans to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, setting a new team attendance mark for the opening pair of games to any season in the franchise's first four seasons.

The Spikes welcomed a standing-room only sellout crowd of 5,593 fans to their Opening Night game on June 19 against the Williamsport Crosscutters, the third largest single-game attendance in Spikes history. An additional 4,486 fans were at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for this past Sunday's Spikes-Crosscutters matchup.

"We are very thankful to each and every fan who made our Opening Weekend such wonderful ballpark experience and a great atmosphere," said Spikes General Manager Jason Dambach. "Since the winter, we have been saying how strongly we feel that this will be the best Spikes' season ever and judging from the reaction of our fans and the feedback they have given to our front office and gameday staffs we are certain it will be."

The Spikes will return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Sunday, June 28 to begin a week-long homestand that offers fans the chance to experience with a 6:05 p.m. game against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Fans can enjoy a Summer Blast-Off Sunday at the park with a spectacular postgame fireworks show and a Pre-Game Catch on the Field.

Kids ages 14 and under can also sign up for the Spikes Youth Baseball Clinic on Sunday. Regstration starts at 11 a.m. and is free with a ticket to that night's game. Instruction will run from 12-2 p.m., with autographs available from the instructors afterwards.

The series continues on Monday, June 29, with a 7:05 p.m. matchup between the Spikes and Scrappers on Dollar Dog Monday presented by 3WZ. All hot dogs will be just $1 apiece for the entire game.

State College and Mahoning Valley end their three-game set on Tuesday, June 30 with another 7:05 p.m. tilt. It will be Buck Bleacher Night at the ballpark, with bleacher seats available to purchase for just $1. It will also be Going Green Tuesday, with the first 1,500 fans receiving a 2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game Reusable Grocery Bag presented by P.J. Harrigan's.

The Spikes then take on the Auburn Doubledays for a three-game home series from Wednesday, July 1 to to Friday, July 3, with each game starting at 7:05 p.m. On July 1, fans will be able to take advantage of Half-Price Wednesday, with bleacher seats and special food and drink items available at half-price.

The series continues on July 2 with Kids Eat Free Thursday presented by FOX 8/ABC 23, where all kids 12 and under will get a voucher for a free hot dog, small soda and chips while entering the gates, and concludes on July 3 with 4 for $44 Friday, where fans can purchase four Diamond Club seats, four small sodas and four hot dogs for just $44, a $63 value.

Saturday, July 4, the Spikes end the homestand with a special 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Williamsport Crosscutters. Fans will be able to finish off the carousel of Daily Fan Value Promotions with Scratch 'n' Win Saturday, where all fans in attendance will get scratch-off cards with a ticket, food or merchandise prize on them, and every card is a winner.
