Jackson Generals News Release

Mobile, Ala. - Tyler O'Neill homered and Edwin Diaz struck out five over two innings in relief, but Mobile won 10-3 over the Generals Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears scored eight runs on six hits in the first inning and Jackson could only get within three.

Mobile (15-21) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring six runs on eight hits while sending 11 to the plate. Jordan Pries (1-2, 11.48) took the loss in his first start of the season after eight relief appearances between Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma.

Southern League Player of the Week Kevin Medrano got the scoring started with an RBI single. Three batters later, former General Gabriel Guerrero drove in a pair with a base hit of his own. Kevin Cron followed with an RBI single before Evan Marzilli capped off the rally with his second single of the inning to score two. Through an inning Mobile led 6-0.

Jackson (22-15) managed to cut the lead in half with a three-run third inning. Pat Brady put Jackson on the board with an RBI double before scoring on a Zach Shank groundout. Tyler O'Neill followed with his second home run in has many days, a 425-foot blast to right-center field to make it 6-3. O'Neill leads the Southern League with eight home runs.

The Generals couldn't maintain the momentum, as Mobile answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. After two singles, Jamie Westbrook clubbed his first homer of the year to make it a six-run game. That blast knocked Pries after the game after 2.1 innings.

Stewart Ijames added a solo shot in the fifth inning to put the BayBears on top 10-3. Ijames went 4-for-4 with three runs, while Guerrero had three hits of his own in the win. Mobile had 16 hits in the contest.

For the first time as a reliever, Edwin Diaz went multiple innings and impressed. The right-hander struck out each of the first five men he faced before surrendering a ground-rule double with two outs in the eighth. Diaz promptly got the next hitter to pop out to finish off his outing.

Zach Shank went 1-for-4 with a single and an RBI to extend his on-base streak to 28 games. The utility infielder is tied with O'Neill for the longest such streak in the Southern League this season, and he currently leads the circuit with a .340 average.

The Generals will try to rebound in the fifth game of a six-game series Tuesday night. Sam Gaviglio (2-2, 4.71) takes the mound for Jackson against Mobile righty Yoan Lopez (3-3, 3.82). First pitch from Hank Aaron Stadium is slated for 6:35 pm CT, and you can catch all the action starting at 6:20 pm CT on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1) in Jackson with the Generals Pregame Show online via the TuneIn Radio App.
