Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Eagles forward Ryan Olsen tied the game with less than four minutes remaining in regulation and then netted the game-winner 47 seconds in overtime as part of a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" that propelled Colorado to a 4-3 victory over the Allen Americans on Sunday. Forwards Joey Ratelle and Julien Nantel each posted a goal and an assist, as the Eagles ran their win streak to five-consecutive games.

For a second straight contest it would be Nantel who would kick off the scoring, as the rookie winger intercepted a pass in the high-slot before skating between the circles and snapping the puck past Allen goalie Jeremy Brodeur. The goal was Nantel's second in as many contests and put Colorado on top 1-0 at the 14:27 mark of the first period.

The second period would see Allen tie up the contest when forward Tyler Poulsen lifted a backhander on the short-side past Eagles goaltender Lukas Hafner to level the score at 1-1 at the 8:41 mark of the period.

Colorado would waste little time in generating an answer, as less than two minutes later Ratelle tipped a shot from the blue line into the back of the net to put the Eagles back on top 2-1.

It would only take 1:25 for the Americans to pull back even when forward Zach Pochiro capped off a 2-on-1 rush with a shot from the slot that would light the lamp and tie the game at 2-2 with 9:19 left to play in the second period.

Allen would generate its first lead of the game when forward Bryan Moore converted on a 3-on-2 rush with a shot from the high-slot that would beat Hafner and put the Americans in the lead 3-2 at the 10:47 mark of the third period.

With time ticking down, Ratelle would sail down the ice before dropping the puck to the top of the right circle where Olsen would blister a shot into the net to tie the game at 3-3 with 3:58 remaining in regulation.

Moving into sudden death overtime, defenseman Matt Register would feed the puck across the blue line to Nantel who would send a cross-slot pass onto the tape of Olsen who would deflect the puck past Brodeur to secure a 4-3 win for the Eagles just 47 seconds into the extra session.

Hafner claimed his sixth straight win in goal, making 25 saves on 28 shots. Brodeur suffered the overtime loss, allowing four goals on 40 shots. Colorado went 0-for-4 on the power play, but finished a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Eagles return to action when they travel to the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah take on the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday, March 21st at 7:05pm MT.
