Oliver to Suit up for River Raiders Coach in Dakota
Cedar Rapids, IA (February 6, 2004) Dean Oliver, a University of Iowa alum and first player to sign with the Cedar Rapids River Raiders, has officially signed with the Dakota Wizards of the CBA . He will be playing for current Head Coach Dave Joerger who will start his head coaching duties in Cedar Rapids with the River Raiders at the end of March with a Free Agent tryout Camp on the 27th & 28th.
Oliver would be filing a spot vacated by Dakota Wizards guard Eddie Gill who received a call-up by the Portland Trailblazers, announced this week. This is Coach Joerger's fifth player called up to the NBA this season since opening day on November 14, 2003.
In 2002/2003 Oliver appeared in 20 games for the NBA's, Golden State Warriors, averaging 2.1 points and 1.1 assists in 7.0 minutes giving him a career-high 15 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3FG, 2-3 FT), career-high four rebounds, two assists and one steal in career-high 18 minutes at Sacramento.
The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) on Friday April 16, 2004 at 7:15 vs. the Oklahoma Storm at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. Single game tickets will go on sale March 1, 2004 at the U.S. Cellular Center Box office. The River Raiders are an expansion franchise of the 19 year-old United States Basketball League.
