FC Cincinnati News Release

CINCINNATI, OH --- As announced today by New York City FC, Sean Okoli will make the move to Major League Soccer after a stellar year with FC Cincinnati.

"Sean will always be remembered as an integral part of the club," said President and General Manager, Jeff Berding. "The excitement he brought to each game, his involvement with our community endeavors and the way he represented the franchise in a positive manner were key in our inaugural season. When we signed Sean in February, we supported his goal of returning to the MLS and we are proud that his positive experience with FC Cincinnati has helped him reach that goal. On behalf of Carl Lindner III and his family, and the rest of our ownership group and staff, we wish Sean nothing but success with New York City FC."

The forward was the USL Most Valuable Player, a first-team selection and the Golden Boot winner after posting a league-topping 16 goals and 35 points.

"Sean is a fantastic player and while we are sad to see him go, we are happy he has earned this opportunity to showcase his talents in the MLS with New York City FC," said Head Coach John Harkes. "His passion for the game, his athleticism and his scoring ability will serve him well at the next level."

A USL Team of the Week honoree five times, Okoli jumped onto the national scene in FCC's first home match with a scissor-kick goal that was voted No. 4 on Sports Center's Top 10 that night in the win against Charlotte Independence.

With Okoli leading the Orange and Blue offense, the first-year club finished third in the Eastern Conference and hosted a playoff match against Charleston Battery in front of 30,187.
