Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Cubs (7-11) dropped a 4-2 game to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (11-8) Tuesday afternoon at Principal Park. Iowa pitching whiffed 12 batters, marking the eighth time this season the I-Cubs' staff has racked up double-digit strikeouts.

Following back-to-back slugfests between the two teams, the offense was quiet on both sides. The Dodgers were the first on the board in the third as Rob Segedin hit a two-RBI triple and Zach Walters followed with a sacrifice fly to put Oklahoma City up 3-0. The I-Cubs responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own off a two-RBI single from Matt Murton, which would ultimately be their only offense of the day. Oklahoma City added an insurance run in the fifth as Walters singled in Segedin. Albert Almora Jr. tried to ignite a ninth-inning rally with a one-out double, but Iowa came up short.

Pierce Johnson (0-1) took his first loss of the season after throwing 4.2 innings and allowing four earned runs off six hits. Out of the bullpen, Miguel Mejia, Felix Pena and C.J. Riefenhauser combined for a flawless relief effort. Pena dropped his season ERA to 0.82 ERA with 2.0 hitless innings and extended his scoreless inning streak to six. Oklahoma City starter Jeremy Kehrt improved to 2-1 with the win.

Daniel Vogelbach, Almora Jr. and Murton each tallied two hits for the I-Cubs.

Iowa takes the day off tomorrow, but will return to Principal Park at 6:38 p.m. Thursday to face Colorado Springs. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a Kyle Schwarber jersey shirt. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
