TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (55-42) dropped the final game of the series to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (55-42) with a 6-4 decision on Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.
Tacoma starting pitcher Jarrett Grube worked 5.0 innings, holding the Dodgers to one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts - he did not factor into the decision.
Right fielder Stefen Romero (2x4), left fielder Guillermo Heredia (2x4), designated hitter Rob Brantly (2x4), and centerfielder Ryan Strausborger (2x4) all recorded multiple hits while combining for three runs and two RBI.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning when James Ramsey led off the frame with a double to left-center field and came around to score on an infield single from Micah Johnson.
The Rainiers gained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a triple to centerfield from Romero to score Heredia, followed by a single to left field from D.J. Peterson to plate Romero, giving Tacoma the 2-1 advantage.
Will Venable smacked a two-run home run to right field in the top of the sixth inning, to give the Dodgers the 3-2 lead.
Tacoma regained the lead with two runs in the home half of the seventh inning. Brantly led off the inning with a double down the right field line, followed by a walk from Patrick Kivlehan. Back-to-back one-out, one-run singles from Strausborger and Tyler Smith plated both Brantly and Kivlehan, making it 4-3 in favor of the Rainiers.
O'Koyea Dickson smacked a two-out, three-run home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the eighth inning, producing the final margin of 6-4.
Relievers Donn Roach, Charlie Furbush, Kraig Sitton, Blake Parker, and Kevin Munson allowed five runs on six hits over the final 4.0 innings of the game, surrendering two walks and striking out one.
Tacoma hits the road to kick off a four-game set against Salt Lake City tomorrow, Friday, July 22. The Rainiers will send right-hander Joe Wieland (7-5, 6.41) to the mound to square off against Bees righty Nate Smith (6-3, 3.98). First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. PT.
