Oilers Slip up Steelheads

Idaho Steelheads News Release

Boise, ID - Two third period goals from Emerson Clark and 36 saves by goaltender Kevin Carr paced the Tulsa Oilers (17-13-4) to a 4-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads (17-17-5) Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.

Clark had two goals and an assist, as well as a fight, to give the Oilers the third period cushion they needed to hold off a Steelhead offense that was attacking the Tulsa net in waves.

With 11:04 to go in the third period and the Steelheads pressuring, Andrew Panzarella had the puck hop over his stick inside the blue line and roll to center ice. Clark pounced on the puck for Tulsa, moving in 2-on-1 on Steelheads goaltender Jack Campbell and lifting a wrist shot over Campbell's glove to give the Oilers a two-goal lead at 3-1.

That goal would prove important when Emil Molin took a cross-ice pass from Kyle Jean with 3:03 remaining to fire home his 14th of the season on the power play and bring the Steelheads back within a goal.

Clark would answer with his 14th of the year with 47 seconds remaining into an empty net, sealing the game.

The Steelheads got on the board first before some fans had found their seats. Right off the opening draw, a Corbin Baldwin stretch pass through the neutral zone was chipped between the Tulsa defense by Jefferson Dahl. Rob Linsmayer picked up the bouncing puck and moved in on a breakaway, beating Carr on Idaho's first shot of the game just nine seconds in.

Linsmayer's second goal in two games and 11th of the season was Idaho's fastest goal to start a game in the ECHL era since March 12, 2004, when Jan Kopecky also scored nine seconds into a game against the Long Beach Ice Dogs.

The Oilers knotted it up when Clark worked the puck free off of an Oilers' offensive zone face-off, pushing it to Phil Brewer in the high slot for his ninth of the year. At 18:08 of the second period, with the Steelheads outshooting Tulsa nearly two-to-one, the Oilers exploited a Steelhead line change and an odd-man situation left Christophe Lalancette in front of the Idaho net to chip the puck over Campbell's pad for his sixth goal.

In the second goaltenders' duel of this series, Carr stopped 36 shots while Campbell knocked away 28.

The Oilers' victory was the 500th win of Jason Christie's ECHL coaching career, extending his all-time lead in coaching victories.

The Steelheads travel to Anchorage next week for three games in three nights against the Alaska Aces at Sullivan Arena. . Puck-drop is scheduled for 9:15pm MT on Friday, with the game available on radio on 1350AM KTIK and on ECHLTV.
