Tulsa Oilers News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - For the second straight game, the Tulsa Oilers attempted to mount a furious third period comeback against the Arizona Sundogs. For the second straight game, the Oilers came up just short.

Tulsa dropped a 3-2 decision to the Sundogs on Tuesday night at the Tim's Toyota Center.

Chad Nehring jammed home his 28th goal of the season at the 5:24 mark of the first period to give the home side the early edge.

Just 17 seconds into the second period, Jason Morgan re-directed a Derek Leblanc pass past Shane Madolora to give the Sundogs a 2-0 advantage. Morgan, playing in his 1,000th career game, netted his 13th goal of the season. The Oilers responded with a powerplay tally at 9:33. Drew Fisher shoveled a pass through the Sundogs crease where Gary Steffes deftly swatted the puck into the cage for his 20th goal of the season and his first since returning to the Oilers from a 16-game AHL call-up. Arizona wasted little time in pushing its lead back to two goals. One minute and fifteen seconds after the Steffes goal, Cody Purves tipped in Mario Larocque's point shot. The Sundogs carried a 3-1 lead into the third period.

The score held until the 16:51 mark of the third when Jeff Buvinow buried a rebound from the top of the Arizona crease to cut the deficit in half. The shorthanded goal was Buvinow's 4th of the season and second in as many games. Kip Brennan's boarding violation gave the Oilers a late powerplay and Madolora was pulled to give Tulsa 6-on-4 advantage. Despite keeping the puck in Arizona territory for the final 1:21, the Oilers were unable to find the equalizer.

Tulsa dropped to 6-20-0 on the road this season and is now 3-2-0 against Arizona. The Oilers have failed to score more than two goals in seven of their last eight games.

Tulsa killed off nine Arizona powerplays and Madolora finished with 36 saves on 39 shots.

The Oilers western road trip continues on Friday when they pay a visit to the Denver Cutthroats at 8:05 p.m. CST.
