Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Prince George, BC - Three first period goals and a 38 save performance from goaltender Laurent Brossoit helped lead the Oil Kings to a 4-2 win over the Cougars on Friday night. The win moved the Oil Kings record to 3-2-0-0 on their current six game road trip and raised the team's overall record to 12-5-1-2 on the season.
Brossoit was quick to turn away some early pressure by the Cougars before Henrik Samuelsson opened the scoring just two minutes into the game. Curtis Lazar sprung Samuelsson on a partial breakaway as he tucked home a backhand forehand for his 11th of the season.
Minutes later TJ Foster spoiled the Cougars first power play of the game as he notched a short handed goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Foster used his speed to beat his man outside before putting a backhand in off the leg of Prince George goaltender Brett Zarowny. The 20 year old from Slave Lake led all players with the goal and a pair of assists. Michael St.Croix would add a 3-0 goal with two seconds remaining in the first for his team leading 12th of the season.
Prince George broke the shut out midway through the second as Jari Erricson scored his fourth of the season. The Cougars clawed their way back in the third as Brett Roulston was able to hammer home a loose puck in the slot to cut the lead to 3-2. Edmonton would survive a late push from the Cougars as Captain Griffin Reinhart notched an empty net goal to make it a 4-2 final.
Brossoit's stellar play was key as he played a major role in helping the penalty kill go a perfect 5 for 5 on the night. The Oil Kings lethal number one ranked penalty kill has not allowed a power play goal in five games and 26 opportunities. Brossoit raised his record to 9-2-1-2 on the season with a GAA of 1.75 and a 0.943 save percentage in his four starts on this road trip.
Edmonton will wrap up this six game trip tomorrow with the second game of this back to back series in Prince George. It will be the Oil Kings fourth game in five nights. Puck drop is set for 8:00 p.m. MST. All games this season will be broadcast live on the TEAM 1260 and streamed live at WHL.ca.
The Oil Kings will return to home ice at Rexall Place on Saturday, Nov. 17 as they host the Raiders for their third meeting of the 2012-13 season. Back by popular demand, the Oil Kings will once again give away 1,000 WHL Championship replica rings.
