Oil Kings Lose Big in Victoria

February 10, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Finishing off a four-game west coast road swing in Victoria, the Edmonton Oil Kings were hoping to end the week-long trip with a win but the Royals had other plans scoring seven unanswered goals on route to an 8-2 win Tuesday night.

Coming into the game the Oil Kings had won six of eight and received exceptional goaltending from both Patrick Dea and Payton Lee. However, as the old cliché goes, they "got away from their game" and Victoria made them pay cruising to their 10th consecutive win.

Kobe Mohr and Dysin Mayo scored in the first and Edmonton had a 2-1 lead but the Royals got goals from Jared Dmytriw (2), Tyler Soy, Joe Hicketts, Regan Nagy, Alex Forsberg, Jack Walker, Ethan Price and 25 saves from Coleman Vollrath in the one-sided win.

Lee (10-13-3-1) got the start but was not given much in the way of defensive support from the team getting pulled by Head Coach Steve Hamilton halfway through the second after allowing six goals on 21 shots. Dea was on clean up duty for the remainder of the game finishing with 16 saves on 18 shots.

The Oil Kings will travel home Wednesday and prepare for two tough games at Rexall Place. Saturday February 13 will see the Lethbridge Hurricanes come to town for a special 2pm game. Then the Tri-City Americans will pay a rare visit to Edmonton on Family Day (Monday February 15). The game will also be a 2pm start time.
